Senior Advocate Pradeep Rai Assumes Leadership of the Supreme Court Bar Association Following a Decisive Electoral Victory

In a significant transition within India’s apex legal fraternity, Senior Advocate Dr. Pradeep Rai has been elected as the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association for the 2026–27 term, succeeding Senior Advocate Vikas Singh. The election, which witnessed active participation from across the Bar, culminated in a decisive mandate that places one of the country’s experienced constitutional practitioners at the helm of the prestigious lawyers’ body.

Dr. Pradeep Rai secured a commanding 822 votes in the presidential contest, surpassing his fellow contenders by a notable margin. Senior Advocate Rahul Kaushik was re-elected as Vice President, while Advocate Pragya Baghel and Advocate Meenesh Kumar Dubey retained their responsibilities as Honorary Secretary and Joint Secretary, respectively. Advocate Amarendra Kumar Singh was elected as Treasurer, with Advocate Aditya Singh securing the post of Joint Treasurer.

The election results mark the beginning of a renewed tenure focused on institutional harmony and member welfare. Following the declaration of the outcome, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant congratulated Dr. Rai and the incoming executive committee, noting that the Bench and the Bar function as a close-knit institutional family dedicated to upholding the administration of justice. The Chief Justice emphasized the necessity of sustained coordination between judges and advocates, expressing confidence that the leadership would actively support younger members of the profession. Extending the Bar’s wholehearted cooperation, Dr. Rai assured the Bench of complete constructive collaboration to strengthen the institutional framework of the Supreme Court of India.

A seasoned jurist with more than twenty-five years of standing before the Supreme Court and various High Courts, Dr. Pradeep Rai brings a deep background in constitutional interpretation, commercial litigation, regulatory mechanisms, and public policy. Having previously served two consecutive terms as the Vice President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, he had pioneered several welfare programs and institutional sub-committees, including the Grievance Redressal Committee, Health Committee, Housing Committee, and E-Committee.

Beyond the courtroom, Dr. Rai has consistently engaged with legal aid, scholarship, and professional mentoring. Through initiatives such as the India Legal Aid Centre and the India Legal Research Foundation, he has worked to advance access to justice, pro bono representation, and structured policy research. His presidential vision outlines meaningful welfare measures for the legal community, including comprehensive medical security cover, merit-based educational scholarships for the children of Bar members, and progressive programs to help junior advocates establish viable practices.
